The first Sri Lankan woman to summit Mount Everest.

"Every mountain top within reach if you just keep climbing."

Jayanthi Kuru Utumpala became the first Sri Lankan woman to summit Mount Everest.

She completed her adventurous journey at 5.03 am, on 21st May, 2016. She became not only the first Sri Lankan but also the first Asian to scale up to the very top of the great mount Everest.
Jayanthi was passionate about expeditions and mountain trekking since her childhood. Her great determination led her to be the woman who she is now.
She met her friend, Johann was as passionate about climbing mountains as Jayanthi during her thirst of climbing mountains. The pair , first scaled island peak, Nepal in 2012,  Mount Kilimanjaro in 2014 and Sri Lanka's own mountains, such Adam's peak.

"There are four camps located on Mount Everest and before we climbed the peak of Mount Everest, we had to complete three acclimatisation rounds, from base camp to camp two and back again, base camp to camp three and back again and finally base camp to camp four and back again. Except for  camp four, we were allowed to rest for a few days at each camp."

She made this glorious journey with limited equipment and with other tough challenges; to maintain both physical and mental strength was challenging. They had to keep timing between the camps and to keep the speed to remain with the team. The living condition during  the journey was tough. They had to use open toilets, have tasteless food and to survive in zero temperature. We had to really adjust to that environment for those two months. It was challenging but w managed to work it all out once w put our minds into it.

As  she moved step by careful step, she realized that she was on the world's highest mountain peak with pride. After two months of hazardous journey, Jayanthi was 6189 meters above ground zero in the pelting snow, the howling winds. Visibility was near zero as the temperature was below minus 31f. Her strength and courage made her do the impossible.

Really we must proud of about her.
